Demis Volpi was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of four he began his ballet training, two years later he was trained by Andrea Candela. Since 1995 he has been training with Wilhelm Burmann from time to time. During the years 1995 to 1999 Demis Volpi also worked together with Mario Gallizi. In 1999 he was a student at the Escuela de Danza del Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón. Afterwards he went to the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto and graduated in 2002. From 2002 to 2004 he attended the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart where he received the Academy Diploma.
He became an apprentice with the Stuttgart Ballet in the 2004/05 season. In the following season he was taken into the Corps de ballet.
Already with his first choreographies for the Noverre-Society's "Young Choreographers", Demis Volpi made his mark as a choreographer. With on and on and on he created his first piece in 2006 for the Noverre-Society. Only one year later, in 2007, Demis Volpi was named in the category “Young choreographer to watch” in the critics’ choice of ballettanz. In 2010, Artistic Director Reid Anderson commissioned a World Premiere from Volpi, followed by The Carneval of the Animals for the John Cranko Schule. In May 2012 The Carneval of the Animals was taken into the repertoire of Hamburg Ballet’s ballet school. For the Pas de deux Little Monsters (World Premiere on March 5th, 2011) which he created for the competition for the Erik Bruhn Prize in Canada, Demis Volpi was awarded the Choreographic Prize. In November 2011 Private Light, a commissioned work for American Ballet Theatre, had it’s World Premiere. With Krabat (world premiere on March 22nd, 2013), Demis Volpi created his first fill-length ballet at the Stuttgart Ballet.
