Wolfgang Heinz started conducting for the Stuttgart Ballet as well as for the State Opera Stuttgart in 2000. Since the season 2008/09 he is also Assistant to the Music Director of the Stuttgart Ballet.
Born in Wiesbaden he grew up in Munich. He studied conducting and piano with Prof. Volker Wangenheim at the conservatoire in Cologne and he was working as bandmaster and solo répétiteur at the Landestheater Detmold, at the Aalto Musiktheater Essen and at the Vogtland Theater Plaune from 1990 on.
In 1994 Wolfgang Heinz was engaged as First Kapellmeister at the Stadttheater Pforzheim, afterwards he directed the Musical Miss Saigon in Stuttgart as well as the Schlossfestspiele Ettlingen 1999/2000.
For the State Opera Stuttgart he conducted a. o. the Millenuim-Gala 2000, Le nozze di Figaro, The Magic Flute, Hansel and Gretel as well as other opera productions as Musical Director between 2002 and 2006.
For the Stuttgart Ballet he conducts almost the whole repertoire, including the classical full-length ballets and the symphonic works. He also accompanies the company on tours all over the world.
Wolfgang Heinz worked as guest conductor in Lisbon (Romeo and Juliet), Ankara (Don Quichote), the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv (Dido and Aeneas), Mexico City (The Taming of the Shrew), Tokyo (La fille mal gardeé) and the State Opera (Swan Lake). He also works with the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the orchestra of the Teatro Real Madrid and the Hessian State Orchestra Wiesbaden.
Since 2009 Wolfgang Heinz operates regularly as a guest conductor with the Birmingham Royal Ballet (Royal Ballet Sinfonia).
