This triple bill celebrates the musical genius of Ludwig van Beethoven. The centerpiece of the evening is a new work by the Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti titled Einssein (“to be one with”) which celebrated its world premiere in the 2020/21 season via livestream. For the choreographer, “to be one with” stands for our relationships with other people, to nature and to music. The dancers, gathered around a grand piano symbolizing Beethoven’s art and life, leave the instrument in twos, threes and fours to come together like the pieces of a puzzle. As if magnetically drawn to one another, they become one again and again. Hans van Manen's timeless masterpieces Adagio Hammerklavier and Große Fuge form the bookends of the evening. The inimitable style of van Manen - reduced, profound and intense - allows the viewer to perceive Beethoven's eponymous music in a new light.
