Friedemann Vogel was born in Stuttgart. He received his ballet training at the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart and subsequently received the John Gilpin scholarship to study with Marika Besobrasova at the Académie de Danse Classique Princesse Grasse in Monaco.
He showed his outstanding talent by winning awards at several internatonal ballet competitions. In 1997, he won the Prix de Lausanne, the Junior Gold medal at the Prix de Luxembourg and at the Eurocity Competition in Italy. In the following year he successfully took part in the International Ballet Competition in Jackson, USA. In 2002 he also won the much-coveted Erik-Bruhn-Prize for young dancers in Toronto with the Pas de deux from In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated (William Forsythe). In 2005 he was named several times in the category “Outstanding Dancer” in the critics’ choice of the magazine ballettanz and again in 2009. In 2010 he was appointed “Dancer of the year” by the magazine tanz, in the critics’ choice 2014 of that same magazine he was named in the category “Dancer of the year”. In the critics’ choice 2014 of the magazine Dance Europe he was named twice as „Outstanding Dancer“. In September 2012 he has been awarded the „Positano Premio la Danza – Leonide Massine“ as best international male dancer.
At the beginning of the season 1998/99 he became a member of the Corps de ballet at the Stuttgart Ballet. He was promoted Demi Soloist in 2000/01 and to Soloist at the beginning of the next season. Since June 2002 Friedemann Vogel is Principal Dancer with the Stuttgart Ballet.
Guest performances and tours with the Stuttgart Ballet lead him amongst others to the Scala in Milano, to the Staatsballet Berlin, the Finnish National Ballet, the National Ballet of China and to the Marijnsky Theater as well as to several Galas and guest performances in Asia. In 2007, he received major critical acclaim when guesting at the English National Ballet as Prince Siegfried in Derek Deane’s Swan Lake and again in 2009 as Daria Klimentová’s partner in MacMillan’s Manon. In June 2012 Friedemann Vogel received the Danza&Danza-Award as Best Dancer, amongst others for his interpretation of Jean de Brienne in Raymonda (Sergej Vikharev) at the Scala in Milan in October 2011.
In September 2015 he was awarded the national title of "Kammertänzer". In 2016 he received the "Prix MAYA".
