TODAY 50 YEARS AGO, the John Cranko School was founded in Stuttgart. Its namesake dreamed of an academy from which the dancers of his company would grow. 1971, ten years after John Cranko became director of the Stuttgart Ballet, his dream came true and the first state ballet academy in the Federal Republic of Germany began to offer its professional ballet education. Located for many years on Urbanstraße in Stuttgart, the small building was soon bursting at the seams. In 2020, the school was finally able to move into a new building that matches its high standard. Students from all over the world attend the school; year after year they win prizes at major competitions; Principal Dancers such as Rocio Aleman, Alicia Amatriain, Martí Fernandez Paixà and Adhonay Soares da Silva completed their training there. John Cranko would have been proud. Congratulations and here’s to the next 50 years!
