Upon the invitation of Artistic Director Tamas Detrich, the dance company of the National Theater Mannheim [NTM] will give guest performances in Stuttgart whilst their home theater is being renovated. The contemporary dance company will present two pieces which explore the boundaries of space and time.

The artistic director of NTM Tanz Mannheim Stephan Thoss explores the order and limits of dance in his choreography SCHWERE los (weight-less). Weightlessness describes a state of missing gravitational force. Precisely this force, constantly present, creates a supportive structure for bodies, but also dependence. A state which choreographers and dancers are only too happy to resist. With his musical approach, Thoss illustrates the desire to use the body not only to oppose the laws of physics, but also the gravitational pull of the music.

For Kosmos, created in 2014 for Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Andonis Foniadakis drew inspiration from the frenetic pace of everyday urban life. The Greek choreographer, who has already worked with numerous international companies, has the dancers of the NTM chase after the zeitgeist. As if in a maelstrom, they whirl across the stage to percussion sounds by Julien Tarride so rapidly that one may wonder which cosmos they inhabit.
