The Board of Directors of the State Theater Stuttgart has unanimously extended the contract of Artistic Director Tamas Detrich for another five years until 2028. Detrich took office in 2018 for an initial five-year term.

"Tamas Detrich has maintained the excellent artistic level of the Stuttgart Ballet," said Theresia Bauer, chairwoman of the board of directors and minister of the arts for the state of Baden-Württemberg, in Stuttgart. "His high-quality and diverse programming which combines the John Cranko legacy and important works from the international ballet repertory with new works by contemporary choreographers, results in regularly sold-out performances. At the same time, Tamas Detrich makes it possible for young dancers to take their first choreographic steps. I am also grateful," Theresia Bauer continues, "that the Stuttgart Ballet was so digitally active during the pandemic and, whenever was possible, also be performed for live audiences. Tamas Detrich has proven himself as an extremely constructive crisis manager. We look forward to a brilliant future for the Stuttgart Ballet under Tamas Detrich."

Tamas Detrich said about the extension of his contract: "After the experiences of the last 18 months, I am more passionate than ever about leading this company, the dancers and staff of the Stuttgart Ballet and especially to be there for our audience. I will do everything in my power not only to maintain the high standard of dancing but to improve it and to offer unforgettable moments of classical ballet and contemporary dance. I am very grateful for the unanimous vote of the Board of Directors - this is a beautiful confirmation that our journey into the future can continue full steam ahead."
